Information Known by the Garou Nation
Name: Aylin Osman
Notable Traits: Expressive, large eyes. Pleasant alto voice. Boho clothing.
Sept: The Last Bastion of Light's Keep
April 1st, 1994: Aylin is born to Jelani “Steps-Lightly” Osman (Silent Strider Ragabash) and Sadie Fenimore, a kinfolk. The two are happy to enact the Baptism of Fire, which summons a small white mouse. They interpret it as an omen that the child will one day shift.
Aylin has a happy, if scattered childhood – learning of the Garou nation, and of the battle she’ll one day inherit, by her father’s side. Sadie sees that Jelani’s tales inspire the girl to perform her own tales with a cast of toys and begins to tutor Aylin in singing and storytelling.
November 14th, 2009: Just outside Bisbee, Arizona, the family’s camper is caught in the middle of a firefight between a party of formori police and a pack of nomadic Garou. Sadie is killed, and Jelani joins up with the pack in order to have his revenge.
Through the next three years, Aylin learns how to be a kinfolk. She cooks meals, cleans and mends trashed clothing, keeps morale up, and watches younger children. She receives her first rifle from Chester “Double-Barrel” Sage, Bone Gnawer Ahroun. The pack methodically hunt the hive of Black Spirals behind the formori police, which cost most of them their lives.
October 28th, 2012: Chester and Jelani part ways. Aylin and her father resume travelling throughout the US.
Aylin receives her GED and applies to online colleges, accepted finally to Ashford University in San Diego. Online, she takes classes in urban studies, gender studies, war, linguistics, and performance. She graduates with a BA in Cultural Anthropology in May 2015.
July 2nd, 2015: Jelani answers a call for aid at the Sept of Gathering Tides in Puerto Rico. Aylin is introduced to Thyra Laskaris, who teaches the girl how to shoot, properly.
March 21st, 2016: Meets Jo Trevino in Sonoma, California while teaching a workshop on storytelling as performative ritual. The two share an instant connection, a couple of late nights, and a lot of Starbucks.
Aylin migrates from workshops and classes on anthropology to the festival scene. She attends Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Lightning in a Bottle, Bonnaroo, and Burning Man. Finding her outlet for creative expression fulfilled, she starts to build up a life with both the wandering elite that frequent the circuit and the predators that make their profits from the festival crowd. Aylin begins to pick up a small following as her storytelling gets better, and she is asked to present (as a smaller act).
May 28th, 2018: Aylin and her father travel to Central Asia - the first time she's been outside the country. Near Turkistan, the two meet up with Red Water who is on his Athro challenge and requires access to the shadowlands for the last part of his quest. Jelani, believing it's a good time to introduce Aylin to the dark side of the Strider lineage, tells her of his trips to the Land of the Dead on the way to Chernobyl.
A month later, Jelani parts the veil for the three of them, and they leave Red Water to complete his quest by himself. Aylin is taken aback by the utter lack of life around her, and can only stay for a few hours before pleading with her father to leave. This proves to be a fatal mistake. The two are ambushed upon their sudden exit by starving radiation spirits. Jelani is slain. Aylin regains consciousness in a Kiev hospital. She manages to get back to the US by stowing away on a cargo plane. Aylin wanders aimlessly around the nation.
September 18th, 2018 Wending her way through the Texas, Aylin encounters Soothes the Burn. The Kitsune spends a few days tailing her through the hills before attempting to ease the young woman's grief. The two part ways, amicably, and with Aylin's heart a little lighter. She resumes wandering.
December 14th, 2018: The White Mouse gifted to her at her Baptism of Fire appears before Aylin, outraged that she still uses her father’s fetish. Furious that a mouse, of all things, would chide her Aylin devours the Mouse spirit. As it slumbers, it bestows upon her the ability to see and hear ghosts. A day later, she experiences her first haunting.
It’s been a rough three months for Aylin. White Mouse has turned his brood against her, ghosts turn up at the most inconvenient times to harass her, and she’s begun to dream vividly of a woman in bloody rags clutching a baby blanket.
- People are just characters in their own stories. You can tell a lot about someone by watching them inhabit their own space.
- Have you ever heard the sound of ten thousand people draw in breath at once? Felt that amazing tension right before the first word?
- And then one time, my dad...
