JANUARY 2019
FOOD BANKS & SHELTERS!
Charitable giving often drops off after the major holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, because that's when all the ad campaigns were about "helping a family have a nice holiday". Which is of course very nice, but people don't magically stop needing help on January 1st. That's why we're having a regional "help your neighbors" campaign.

To make it easy, you can donate to any food bank or shelter in your domain or to a larger regional charity. Washington State has Northwest Harvest, for instance, and Oregon has Oregon Food Bank. If you choose to give time or stuff, check with your local shelters to see what is most in demand at the moment. Also, check the links below for ideas on what kinds of goods are always needed.

Important Dates

  • Drive starts on 01/01/19
  • Drive ends on 01/31/19
  • Proof of donation must be turned in to your domain coordinator before 02/15/19

Prestige Guidelines

  • This charity maxes out at 30R per month.
  • Volunteered Hours: 10R Per hour volunteered with proof of having volunteered. Must have proof.
  • Cash Donations: $3 donated equals 1R Prestige

Just list your monetary donation or items donated and the RC will calculate the prestige for you! If you need an idea of what something might be 'worth', consider the price of the item and consider that amount along the lines of $3 spent is 1R awarded.

I don't know what to give!

PET CARE!
Pet rescues and shelters need our help so they can keep saving the needy pets in our communities. You can help out in many ways! Especially with pet care charities, there are many opportunities for volunteering. Perhaps you can volunteer directly at the pet rescue and help them where you can, whether it's walking dogs, bagging food, cleaning, or designing special events.

Maybe you can get together with others of your domain or chapter and table an awareness event or a fundraiser, or do some basic landscaping for the rescue's facility. Contact your local pet rescues to see where you and your domain can help! Animals often get neglected in favor of charities that focus on people, but animals need our help too and cannot advocate for themselves. If you have ever had a beloved pet, please help other pets find good homes too!

Important Dates

  • Drive starts on 01/15/19
  • Drive ends on 03/15/19
  • Proof of donation must be turned in to your domain coordinator before 04/15/19

Prestige Guidelines
Use the subject line NW Regional Charity Drive, 2019 Q1 Pet Care Drive and send your prestige recommendations to your domain coordinator and to the NW ARC Prestige at mortichi@comcast.net.

  • This charity maxes out at 30R per month.
  • Volunteered Hours: 10R Per hour volunteered with proof of having volunteered. Must have proof.
  • Cash Donations: $3 donated equals 1R Prestige
  • Item Donations: Please see list of recommendations below.

We urge members to check with the wish list for your intended pet care agency for any items the agency particularly needs. We will gladly work with you to determine the prestige guidelines for requested items that are not on this list. Also, we know that some agencies, such as the Humane Society, have thrift stores connected to them in order to raise funds for their pets. At least for this drive, please do not donate items that cannot directly help the animals. An hour of your time or some bags of treats are worth far more to the animals than a bunch of old clothes.
