Gereon is a scholar who seeks to understand vampiric past so that he can see the future. He came from the Aquitaine region of the Carolingian Empire (what would become the Holy Roman Empire). Born into a wealthy family, he entered the academic life early, receiving instruction from both a monastery as well as in the schools started by Pepin of Aquitaine (inspired by his grandfather, Charlemagne).
Gereon is an obsessive, and little matters to him other than the gathering of knowledge, discovery of the past, and preparation for the future. He is known to abhor the destruction of any living (or undead), thinking being: he earned his nickname La Lanterne d'Aquitaine by saving a large number of vampires during the Anarch Revolt, even vampires that he was known to have acted against.

There is no end to education.

It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education.
The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.

Insert your quotes and rumors here

  • Rumor has it that he only took the Primogency in Bordeaux because people were becoming suspicious, and starting to realize that he was controlling a series of princes. I mean, a Master Elder that didn't want a position of power? Really?
  • The whole "Lantern of Aquitaine" thing is a sick joke. People also called him the "Will o' the Wisp," because the only place he'd ever lead people to was their deaths.
  • Nonsense. He saved dozens from the horrors of the Diablerists and the Saracens, and earned his title honorably.
  • "Thing about mysterious Malkavian Elders showing up with no obvious reason is that sometimes they do it just to fuck with us. I think they throw darts at the wall and just waltz into town to see how much chaos they can generate. The problem is, when they are here for a good reason, they act like they are here at random. That's why I always treat those old crazy bastards like they are a bored Viper. Keep an eye on them, don't make any sudden movements in their direction, and whatever you do don't think they are harmless." Arlington, in a passing conversation with a Camarilla Sheriff at the Longest Night Ball, 2018.
  • "There are a ton of shitty elders in the world. Like... an exceptionally high percentage actually. I don't think this is one of them. But that's the tricky thing about Malkavians isn't it? I'm gonna go on thinking he's the bee's knees for a while and then someday I just suddenly won't anymore. Might not think much of anything at that point actually. Come to think of it, this guy might not be worth the risk." Christian Flemming
  • "Gereon d'Aquitaine saved many in the collapse of Michael's dream in the East, and did what he could again in France with the fires of the Inquisition. However was that because of his noble soul, or someone walking that path to keep something darker at bay within his own heart? In either case, the Lamplighter is apt epithet for him." Carden d'Vergobret

La Lanterne d'Aquitaine

in the city of Seattle
as a Master Elder

Holds the Fleeting Status:
Favored, given by Elder Mikoyan of Seattle

I confess that I have as vast contemplative ends, as I have moderate civil ends:
for I have taken all knowledge to be my province;
and if I could purge it of two sorts of rovers,
whereof the one with frivolous disputations, confutations, and verbosities,
the other with blind experiments and auricular traditions and impostures, hath committed
so many spoils,
I hope I should bring in industrious observations, grounded conclusions, and profitable inventions
and discoveries; the best state of that province.

This, whether it be curiosity, or vain glory,
or nature, or (if one take it favourably) philanthropia,
is so fixed in my mind as it cannot be removed.
And I do easily see, that place of any reasonable countenance doth bring commandment
of more wits than of a man's own; which is the thing I greatly affect.
