Qusay ibn Namdar
Qusay ibn Namdar
Qusay appears as an elderly and stout Arab man. He is short and sometimes hunched. He wears simple garments that in the West might be mistaken for pajamas.
In life, Qusay owned a junkyard and collected other people's trash. He was forever stacking and organizing his piles of garbage. Among the trash, he had discovered an ancient artifact important to clan Ventrue. He treated it like any other piece of rubbish, stored it, catalogued it, and kept it safe. The Assamite Galatea and the Ventrue Julia Antasia came to call on him and request he turn over the artifact. He judged their questions about the item and methods of persuasion. On consideration, he chose to give the artifact to Galatea. She was, understandably, pleased. She saw in him the perfect qualities for a caretaker of the Museum of Alamut. She embraced him in 320 BCE and put him to work organizing the treasures of Alamut.
In 780, an earthquake hit Jerusalem, and destroyed the Al-Aqsa mosque. Qusay's childe to be, Habiba, was among a group of the faithful who clambered through the ruble trying to rescue the people trapped in the debris. Qusay ibn Namdar was there as well. He was the Curator of the Sasila, who controlled all of the artifacts collected by clan Assamite. He found himself stricken with awe over Habiba's ability to preserve the pieces of artwork dug up from the rubble, and pity over her anguish at the loss of the site and lives within. He decided to take her with him on his travels and indoctrinate her into the service of the Mountain. The pair traveled the world collecting antiquities to be shipped back to Alamut. They traveled with Barbary pirates as far as Ireland, where they fell in with a group of Viking raiders. The Vikings would raid monasteries for gold and silver, leaving the manuscripts and scrolls for Qusay and Habiba. In 842, while raiding the Irish monastery at Clonmacnoise, Habiba discovered a hidden cache of hadiths and apocrypha. Delighted in the skills of his charge, Qusay gifted Habiba the embrace that night.
They eventually made their way to Alamut, where Qusay showed Habiba the entire museum of the Assamites. They spent several lifetimes cataloging and preserving curious discoveries from around the world.
It is rumoured that Qusay was one of the seven captured Assamites ransomed at the Convention of Thorns. This may or may not be true.
When Ur-Shulgi returned he summoned the apolitical Historian, Librarian, and Curator before him and demanded they remove from Alamut and destroy any writings or artifacts related to Islam. He gave them one day to pick through the archives and create a fire in the middle of the Central Vault. First hand accounts of the lives of prophets. Religious artifacts held by saints. This was a step too far for the otherwise docile trio. They loaded all they could save onto the backs of 3 donkeys and 2 camels. Elodia, the Librarian of Alamut, and Qusay, the Curator, staged the only successful theft in the history of the archives. And they were stealing it themselves. Babur, the historian of Alamut, cast a spell allowing them to travel through the day and the scorching sun with the pain and damage transferred to his body instead. When Ur-Shulgi awoke and saw no preparations for his bonfire, he flew into a rage and summoned the archivists. Babur, badly burned and limping, came before the Methuselah to answer for their crimes. Nobody knows what happened to Babur, the Historian of Alamut, but he delayed long enough for the other two to escape. Habiba, the assistant, had to stay and protect what remains.
Qusay is the former Curator of the Museum of Alamut. He fled the Mountain with Islamic artifacts Ur-Shulgi threatened to destroy. He maintains contacts and allies all over the world who control caches of antiquities. He was responsible for sending Assamites on missions of extraction for thousands of years. He knows people and places all over the world and has heard every rumor of any magic item, rare relic, or forgotten antiquity. It is rumoured that he has reached out to the The Hypatia Exchange and the brood of Galatea to enlist their help in hoarding new artifacts. He also works with The Eldest in Exile's Praxidice Council for the American SE and the Caribbean.
- Update: Killed in Memphis 2018. Investigations point to a woman with a flaming sword. Further investigations into his ashes lead to the discovery of three other Praxidice Council members death.
