Biography

World-renowned artist, author and conservationist Tenirion Ulibov is a man on a mission. He tirelessly speaks out on behalf of the animals of the earth in the hopes that people will come to realize that the fate of the animals and of the people on earth are undeniably intertwined. He tries to show people that only by ensuring that the creatures of the wild are able to exist in their natural habitats and by their natural means can any of us have hope for our future generations. His many written works try to show the innate intelligence and nobility possessed by the animal kingdom. At the same time, his frequent appearances and lectures on conservationist causes, given to both academic and government panels around the world, are intended to raise awareness of the need to preserve nature and live responsibly on the planet that we all share.

Unknown to the world at large, Shadow’s Smile was born in one of those wild places he seeks to protect and restore. As one of the great Khan, he is gifted by Gaia the ability to take the form of man so that he may watch over the world and speak out on behalf of the Wyld. Just as the breaking light of Dawn speaks to the earth so it may wake up from the darkness that turned it cold, he tries to speak the message that each new day should be taken with care and compassion for all creatures. As a member of the Beast Courts he observed and manipulated the human world to protect and educate, and spent many years teaching younger members of the Courts in the ways of blending into the modern world.

He grew up near Melnichnoye, in Primorye (the Russian far-east, just north of Vladivostok), and attended school at Dalnevostochny Federalny Universitet (Far Eastern Federal University) where he eventually graduated with a Master’s degree in Classical Literature as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts specializing in drawing. In 1991 he got his literary start in drawing and writing comic books that were published in Europe and Asia, eventually progressing to full length graphic novels that are now published in 19 languages and in 44 countries around the globe. Receiving his Doctorate in Literature from Doshisha University in 2008, he continues to teach and guest-lecture at many of the world’s foremost colleges and institutes of higher learning on the evolving mediums and roles of literature in modern society in the shaping of collective morality and conscience. He is unapologetic about using his celebrity status and academic stature to further the causes of animal rights and conservationism, although in recent years he has been more vocal and less confrontational in his efforts owing to several arrests in Europe after passionate protests and rallies.

Born as a Siberian Tiger, he looks upon humanity as misguided creatures to be taught, so that they may understand the true beauty that can be found by their willful choices in caring for the earth and sharing it with all of the noble creatures that the Splendid Lady has birthed into the world. His ecumenical view of all Fera and of the Garou led him to step away from the Beast Courts and travel to the Western world, where he continues on his Elder Quest to free his fellow felines from their captivity by man, working alongside several rescue organizations to repatriate tigers and other big cats back into the wild.

  • “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” Leo Tolstoy
  • "Shadow's Smile is patient, and kind, and these are not the ways most people describe the Khan to me. He has also taken to humanity far more even than I have, for one who was born feline. I have now met a few others of our kind, and I have come to think he is an exception to many rules... but in this time of changing rules, perhaps it is best to be that? And perhaps, even more, there is a lesson there about what it means to be Bastet." - Lines of Light
  • "There are many ways to change the world, the most lasting and impactful is through touching the hearts and minds through stories. I have a sneaking suspicion that when all is said and done, many of our quietest and most numerous victories will be won through the pages of his works." - Oliver "Truth & Consequences" Bishop
